About Dr. Podell
Dr. Podell specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and has expertise in the treatment of anxiety, mood, and behavioral problems. Dr. Podell works with children, adolescents, and young adults, for whom she offers individual and family therapy, as well as parent training. She has been trained by world-renowned experts in the field of anxiety and CBT.
Dr. Podell completed her undergraduate work at the University of California, Berkeley and earned both her MA and PhD in clinical psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia. She worked under the mentorship of Dr. Philip Kendall, creator of the Coping Cat Program, at the Temple University Child and Adolescent Anxiety Disorders Program where she specialized in CBT for children and adolescents. Dr. Podell completed her pre-doctoral psychology internship and postdoctoral psychology fellowship at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior with a specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry. During internship and fellowship Dr. Podell worked under the direction and mentorship of Dr. John Piacentini at the UCLA Childhood OCD, Anxiety and Tic Disorders Program and Dr. David Miklowitz at the UCLA Child and Adolescent Mood Disorders Program.
Prior to starting private practice, Dr. Podell was a Staff Psychologist and Clinical Instructor in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the UCLA Semel Institute. Dr. Podell taught and supervised child psychiatry fellows and psychology interns in the administration of cognitive behavioral therapy at the UCLA ABC child partial hospital program and the UCLA General Child Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic. Dr. Podell also worked in the UCLA Childhood OCD, Anxiety and Tic Disorders Program where she conducted research assessments and therapy.
Dr. Podell has also conducted research and published journal articles and book chapters in the area of childhood anxiety. Dr. Podell’s research interests include parenting practices and family environmental factors that influence the development, course, and maintenance of childhood anxiety disorders.Dr. Podell is an active member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) and the American Psychological Association Division 12 (Clinical Psychology), Division 53 (Child and Adolescent Psychology), and Division 54 (Pediatric Psychology).
